April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Exchange club of Brunswick has partnered with Safe Harbor to help bring awareness to the community. The National Exchange Club’s National Project, the prevention of child abuse, was adopted in 1979 with the encouragement of National President Dr. Edward North Jr., a physician from Jackson, Miss., who observed increased incidences of abuse through his medical practice.
Safe Harbor’s mission is to provide shelter and therapeutic services to children who’ve been abused, abandoned or neglected; who are homeless or have run away from home or who are otherwise at risk or feel threatened.
Brittany Howard, Ms. Rodeo U.S.A. 2017, helped Andrea Belton, community prevention specialist with Safe Harbor, and Jessica Floyd, Rainbow Floyd and Kira Browning “plant” a pinwheel garden at Rodeo at the Beach, an event held recently at the Exchange Club of Brunswick Fairgrounds. Rodeo at the Beach is one of the fundraising events presented by the Exchange Club of Brunswick.
